“700 million (CZK) more”

On 20th April 2017 the 7th year of Council of Science BIC Brno was held in Czech Republic in Brno. Many subjects were discussed such as increase of institutional support by 700 million (CZK) for universities and research organizations, robotics, Horizon 2020 and much more.

The European Research Council publishes a manual on open access to data

In April 2017, the ERC published an open data access manual to simplify the sharing of scientific information and data. This should support the development of science, innovations and education.

22th Nuclear Medical Defence Conference 2017

From May 8th to 11th 2017 there will be the 2nd Nuclear Medical Defence Conference in Munich. Conference is hosted by the Bundeswehr Institute of Radiobiology.  There will be two key sessions: first one will introduce an update of “Biomarker of exposure and bioindicator of effect” and the second session will summarize and update the current knowledge of the “Effects of electromagnetic fields”.

International Training: Exploitation of EU Project Results with a Focus on IP in the Field of Health and Biotechnology

From May 10th to 11th International Training will be held in Prague (Czech Republic). Hosts of this event are The European IPR Helpdesk, in close co-operation with the Fit for Health 2.0 project and the Enterprise Europe Network. This workshop is particularly addressed to SMEs and researchers and it is aimed on using Horizon 2020 more strategically to strengthen their innovation capacities.

BioTech 2017 and 7th Czech-Swiss Symposium

From June 13th to 17th 2017 the 7th symposium will be held in National Technical Library in Prague (Czech Republic). Lectures will be organized in following sessions: Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Microalgae Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Food and Agriculture Biotechnology, Biorefinery and Industrial Biotechnology.

Pain Therapeutics 2017

New Vice Presidents and members of the ERC Scientific Council

Professors Sierd Cloetingh and Mart Saarma have been appointed new Vice Presidents of the European Research Council. Sierd Cloetingh will be in charge of supervision of the ERC activities in the domain of Physical Science and Engineering. Mart Saarma will take over the Life Sciences domain. Both were already serving as ERC Scientific Council members. At the same time, the European Commission appointed three new ERC Scientific Council members: Prof Tomáš Jungwirth (Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and University of Nottingham, UK), Prof Dame Janet Thornton (European Molecular Biology Laboratory – European Bioinformatics Institute, UK) and Prof Fabio Zwirner (University of Padua, IT).

First calls of HORIZON 2020 already published

The European Commission continuously publishes drafts of work programmes for the first calls of Horizon 2020 for 2014–2015 on its website. It is expected that the official publication of the calls will take place on 11 December 2013. Seminar on HORIZON 2020

MICEP organizes on 19 September 2013 seminar about HORIZON 2020, which begins next year. Content of the seminar are new things in comparison with ending FP7, information about activities of the Czech Liaison Office for Research and Development (CZELO) in Brussels and the institutions concerned. The seminar will be also about the meaning and importance of working with SMEs in the projects and examples of projects solved in cooperation with SMEs. New partnership in the fight against poverty-related diseases

The European Union and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation agreed to cooperate in the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other poverty-related diseases, which suffers more than a billion people on the world. The agreement, signed in Paris by the European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, allows creating new strategic partnerships for research in this area. In the period 2007–2011 contributed Foundation and the European Commission approximately EUR 2.4 billion (USD 3.1 billion) for research on infectious diseases associated with poverty. Global Microbial Identifier (GMI)

The aim of the initiative is to create a global system for creating, sharing and use of microbiological genomic data on an equal access basis. Data usage is directed both to the medical area, as well as environmental, plant and animal area. The initiative is open to those interested in cooperation. 9th Call Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI)

Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) has released the ninth call for proposals for projects of public-private partnerships in drug development. More information can be found ExternĂ­ odkaz here.


GRAPHENE and HUMAN BRAIN

Two selected projects FET Flagships, GRAPHENE project and HUMAN BRAIN project, plan to announce calls for the expansion of consortia in October 2013. Detailed information can be found ExternĂ­ odkaz here.


Call EU-LAC

EU announces an „open call“ research projects that relate to the fundamental objectives of EU-LAC. It is the first in a series of challenges, funded by the EU-LAC Foundation Board of Governors. Proposals will be evaluated by the Academic Council Foundation, an independent body consisting of five renowned academics, experts in the relations within the EU-LAC and international relations, politics and the economy in the region. Call IPR SME Helpdesk – China

It was opened a call of the program CIP (specific program of Enterprise and Innovation), which aims to create a supportive Helpdesk for small and medium-sized enterprises in the field of intellectual property rights that relate to work in China or in cooperation with China. Conference on „The Month of Brain“

The European Commission has declared the month of May „The Month of Brain“ and organized two international conferences on this topic. The first conference took place on 14 May 2013 in Brussels under the title „European Brain Research: Success and Next Challenges“ and the other took place from 27 to 28 May in Dublin (because of the Irish Presidency of the EU). On-line training on ethics in health research

New partnership in the fight against poverty-related diseases

The European Union and the Foundation of Bill and Melinda Gates agreed today on a cooperation in the fight against HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other poverty-related diseases. International Strategy for patenting in ICT

Research project ExternĂ­ odkaz European ICT Poles of Excellence (EIPE) of JRC Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) focuses on issues of growth, jobs and innovation, which are the main EU priorities of the pro-growth strategy Europe 2020. Report on the participation of women in research

The European Commission has published a book named „She Figures“, which states that while in Europe the percentage of women researchers increases, there is still a lack of women in scientific fields and women devoted to scientific careers. New applications for SMEs for IPR

United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office, UKIPO, together with other partners has launched the application of intellectual property rights (Intellectual Property App) designed for micro, small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The app should help SMEs to understand the area of intellectual property rights (IPR) and how to use them. Application provides an overview of patents and other intangible assets, showing IP as a part of business planning. The application can be downloaded from iTunes (Apple Store) and Android App store. Conference on Brain Research

Conference „European Brain Research: Successes and Next Challenges“ takes place within the European Brain month in Brussels on 14 May 2013. The conference will present the benefits of research in brain health supported by the European Union. New challenges will be discussed in this area of science. Presidency conference „Healthy Brain: Healthy Europe“

The Irish Presidency and the European Commission organize on 27 – 28 May 2013 in Dublin a conference on brain research „Healthy Brain: Healthy Europe – A New Horizon in Brain Research and Healthcare“. The conference will end the European Brain month – May 2013. The event is open to the general public and is free of charge. 2 billion Euros for research of graphene and human brain

The European Commission has published the winners of a contest of its flagship Future and Emerging Technologies (FET), which is subsidized by billions of Euros. ExternĂ­ odkaz Graphene Project and ExternĂ­ odkaz Human Brain Project will receive one billion Euros each for 10 years providing superior results to the scientific frontier of science and technology. Scientists from at least 15 EU Member States (including Czech Republic) and nearly 200 research institutions are involved on each of these projects.


European Month of the Brain - May 2013

The European Commission launched May 2013 as the European Month of the Brain. During this month there will be a variety of events and activities aimed at increasing knowledge of the achievements and future challenges in the field of brain research. You can participate by organizing your own events with this topic in May 2013. Part of the European Month of the Brain are two conferences organized by the European Commission. EuroBioForum 2013

This edition of EuroBioForum will explore the potential areas for transnational and transregional collaboration in Personalised Medicine. It will take place at Munich, 27th–28th May 2013. You are invited to exchange your views on the state of affairs in policy development and deployment, and on the challenges in policies, implementation strategies and required investments. ERC database projects

ERC has published a database of projects on its website. For each project, there is mentioned his name, acronym, name of the principal investigator, the name of the host institution, the amount of funding, the length of the project and its abstract. Data center IP

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has developed a data center for statistics in the field of intellectual property. It is an online service providing an access to statistical data of WIPO about intellectual property rights. Users can choose from a wide range of indicators, and view or download the data according to their needs. 1st Scenario Building

From 22 to 23 October 2012 took place 1st Scenario Building Workshop in Buenos Aires, which was held by FP7 EU-LAC Health focusing on identifying common priorities of biomedical research EU and countries in Latin America. More information is available ExternĂ­ odkaz here.

The European Commission has appointed 12 new members of the Management Board of the European

Institute of Innovation and Technology The European Commission has appointed 12 new members of the Management Board of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Report on the ERC in 2011

Annual report on the activities of the ERC (European Research Council) for 2011 was published on 19 June 2012 and it was prepared by the European Commission in cooperation with the ERC Scientific Council and the ERC Executive Agency (ERCEA). The basic task of the ERC is to implement the specific program „Ideas“ of the 7th Framework Programme. The interactive website offers the opportunity to participate in the EIP AHA

A new interactive website was launched in early April 2012 – ExternĂ­ odkaz „Marketplace for Innovative Ideas“ which provides information about possibilities of participating in the European Innovation Partnerships for active and healthy aging (ExternĂ­ odkaz EIP AHA).


EU Health Portal

FP7 Applicant Training 2012 in Rome

Fit for Health organises a free of charge one-day training for FP7-Health applicants on 15th June in Rome, Italy. This training targets researchers from companies, universities, research institutes, hospitals, and patient organisations that are planning to actively coordinate or participate in writing a proposal for the forthcoming FP7-Health-Call 2013. Once you have registered you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire with details of your draft proposal which you plan to submit on the upcoming FP7-HEALTH-Call 2013. SMEs are strongly encouraged to participate in this event. The training will be supplemented with a virtual training dedicated to financial issues. FP7 Applicant Training 2012 in Madrid

International partnering event for research and innovation in health and agrofood

Partners meeting „Meet4lifesciences“ will take place in swiss Basel, 26.–27. 6. 2012. Targeted groups of this meeting are especially innovators and decision makers from universities, research institutes and the industry. First Euro-India International Conference on Diabetes (EICD – 2012)

The First Euro-India International Conference on Diabetics will take place on 9, 10 and 11 April 2012 in Kottayam, Kerala, India. This is the first time a joint conference is planned between Europe and India on diabetes. The main aim of the conference is to develop a Holistic Approach to the Prevention, Management and Treatment of Diabetes. This conference is the big international meeting exclusively dedicated to the field of diabetes. The conference will be attended by hundreds of doctors and researchers from Modern Medicine (Allopathy), Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Reiki and Traditional Practitioners of Yoga, Acupuncture, Siddha, Unani, Chinese Medicine etc. The goal of the conference emphasizes interdisciplinary research and holistic approach to medical sciences. The study of long-term impact of the Framework Programmes

HIVERA - training session

A training session will be organised in Bucharest, in the period 19–20th March, dedicated to actors interested in the HIV/AIDS research, organised in the framework of the HIVERA project. ExternĂ­ odkaz HIVERA is an ERA-Net action supported by the European Commission through the 7th Framework Programme – Cooperation, devoted to AIDS/HIV research throughout Europe and coordinated by the French national agency for research on AIDS and on viral hepatitis (ANRS). It involves ministries, research organisations, and governmental bodies, funding agencies from Belgium, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Turkey.

IMI Open Info Day

IMI will hold an Open Info Day on its 5th Call for proposals at the Crowne Plaza – Le Palace Hotel in Brussels, Belgium on February 27, 2012. The day will include an overview of IMI’s funding and intellectual property (IP) rules, tips and testimonies from people involved in ongoing IMI projects, and presentations of the 5th Call topic „European lead factory: Joint European compound library and screening centre“ by the Project Coordinator. In addition, there will be plenty of networking opportunities. IMI staff will also be on hand to answer questions relating to the 5th Call. IMI encourages small and medium-sized enterprises, patient organisations, regulatory authorities, academic teams, industry, hospitals and other organisations with an interest in IMI projects to take part in the Open Info Day. Report from the public consultation on the eHealth Action Plan 2012-2020

The European Commission has published the final report on the results of public consultation on the Action Plan for e-Health (eHAP) 2012–2020. The results show the need for a consensus of participating to develop e-Health. More information can be found ExternĂ­ odkaz here.


Future platform for the personalized medicine

A four-year project ExternĂ­ odkaz P-medicine, which was launched in February last year and 19 partners from 9 European countries and Japan participate in it, aims to develop new IT platform and tools for the field of personalized medicine. More information ExternĂ­ odkaz here.


9th call of the ICT programme

International Congress for research on rare and orphan diseases

International Congress for research on rare and orphan diseases will be held on February 29 – March 2, 2012 in Basel, Switzerland. The event will bring together researchers and industry representatives to discuss the latest developments and advances in stem cells, cell biology, gene therapy, human genetics and medical applications. Guide for SMEs to manage IP in the FP7

The IPR Helpdesk has published a new guide that provides to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) a practical overview on how in the best way treat intellectual property in the FP7. Call for participation in a group of stakeholders for eHealth

The European Commission plans to the beginning of 2012 to establish a group of representatives of eHealth, and therefore calls on all interested parties to express interest and involvement in this group that will participate in the development of legislation of eHealth, for example through reports, opinions and providing relevant data. The Strategic Implementation Plan EIP AHA

On the November 7th, 2011 the ExternĂ­ odkaz Steering Group established by the European Commission approved the ExternĂ­ odkaz Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) of the European Innovation Partnership focused on aging and an active and healthy aging (Pilot European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing – EIP AHA). SIP outlines a vision and a set of actions to address the challenges of aging through innovation. More information ExternĂ­ odkaz here.


New program Health for Growth 2014–2020

On the 9th November 2011 European Commission approved proposal for a new program Health for Growth for the years 2014–2020 with a budget of 446 million Euros. The program aims to support and complement the work of EU Member States to achieve these four objectives:

  • Developing innovative and sustainable health systems;

  • Increase access to better and safer health care for citizens;

  • Health promotion and disease prevention;

  • Protection of citizens against cross-border health threats.

The draft is now discussed by European Parliament and Council with expected approval by the end of 2013 so that the program could be launched from 2014. Design of the program ExternĂ­ odkaz here.


Minutes of the Health priority

On 9–10 November 2011 the Programme Committee of the Health priority was held in Brussels to focus the research in the last year of FP7 (2013). World Health Organization (WHO) has published the „Atlas of Mental Health“, which brings the latest estimates of global resources in mental health, prevention and treatment of mental disorders and the protection of people who suffer from these diseases. 23rd annual EU Contest for Young Scientists know the winner

On September 27, 2011, in Helsinki were reported results of the 23rd year of the EU Contest for Young Scientists. A total of 87 projects from 37 countries participated in the contest. Teams of scientists under 21 years were presenting on the five-day event. An international jury selected the winning teams from Ireland, Switzerland and Lithuania. The outcomes of the conference on cooperation with EECA countries in health research

The project ExternĂ­ odkaz EECAlink is a coordinating action financially supported by the thematic priority Health of the FP7. The project aims to encourage and facilitate international cooperation between the EU and the countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) in health research. During the conference in Brussels on 7 June 2011 were presented the results of the project with emphasis on its main objective, which is to identify common research priorities of the EU and the EECA. Presentation from joint seminars USA – EU to nanoEHS

Joint US-EU workshop on the issue of Nano in environmental, health and safety field (EEC) was held in10–11 March 2011 in Washington. The goal of the seminar, attended by over 200 experts from the Ministries, regulatory authorities, academies, research institutes and industry, was to promote discussion on environmental, health and safety problems of products to which production is used nanotechnology. New technologies for Computer/Robot Assisted Surgery

On 11–13 July 2011, Graz, Austria, SCATh and more universities, institutes and companies are gathering specific knowledge in consortia, and this type of cooperation generates high-quality research outcomes and innovative technical solutions. The SCATh Project organises a workshop that has the aim of highlighting the research conducted at European level in the field of new technologies for computer/robot assisted surgery. It will also provide training to early stage and advanced stage researchers, and will be the place to share new visions and perspectives in the related research fields.
